10:27 pm - Just testing my icon
LJ won't let me upload more pics, and I needed an Ariel icon, so here it is. I made it myself and I'm very content with it. Look at it, this is my cat! 111!!! I still can't believe I'm the chosen one to take care of this amazing, precious beauty.

Here is the original picture, BTW, just to show off my icon-making skills:

I don't know about you, but IMO this is just wrong.

I don't want to turn into a [info]childfree mood here, but honestly, how can ten-year-olds even think about sex? I'm pretty sure I didn't know the sense of this word when I was ten.

I'm back in Germany after two months of doing practically nothing and leaving my parents do the job for me. It was nice to be spoiled for a while, but it gets tiresome after a month or so. I guess this means I'm glad I'm back to my old life, although it's going to change very soon, because I'm officially in the very last stages of my studies. Yay?

I guess I'm afraid. My sister found practical experience in Hamburg. It's a pretty nice and well-paid for the circumstances place (she works for the OTTO magazine), but the prices are going up here too, just like in Bulgaria, and to finance herself, my poor sis has to continue her old work in Kiel every second weekend for her to manage to pay for everything and lead a normal life. I suppose this is how it's going to be with me, too, at least until I'm done with my practical experience. Very soon, I'll have to go on a job hunting, and as much as I want to remain in Northern Germany, I know enough people who had to move against their will to Munich, Frankfurt or Dresden, and I really, really don't want to. At least two things have resolved themselves - I got a permanent residence permission for Germany, and I'm allowed to work here without restrictions, because I'm going to won a German university diploma. Will it bring anything to have a double Bachelor in English and Spanish? I really don't know.

I want to make some original slash recs. If you enjoy this kind of thing and trust my taste for a little bit ;-), you should check them out. All of them are lovely, well-written and entertaining.

1. [info]khaoskomix's stories, which can be found here.

As you can see, the stories are not written in prose, but in a comic form. Trust me, you wouldn't want to have them any other way - the advantage is that you already know what the characters look like and wouldn't be disappointed if they don't turn out the way you imagined them according to the author's description, and the fact that you don't have to go through long and weary paragraphs to get the author's point, because it's all drawn already and it's up for you to see it yourself. [info]khaoskomix's comics are funny, cutely-drawn and very entertaining. I also like the fact that they include a transgendered person, which is a rarity, and positively-described girls, which is, sadly, even a bigger rarity, if you exclude the ever-present female best friend popping up in almost every original slash story.

Warning: the comics are not finished (but three from the eight separate stories are), but are updated really frequently, and all main characters seem to be queer. *shrugs* In this case, I really don't care, because it's worth it.

2. If you speak German, you have to read everything by Miss P, especially Bitter, which is finished, its unfinished sequel Sweet and Blackout. Bitter was finished after a long time waiting for the last chapter, so I trust that Sweet will be finished, too.

To find someone speaking proper German on the Internet is about as hard as finding someone writing in proper English - for some reason, people think it's 'cool' to write like someone in primary school. Well, Miss P does not do that - her language is rich, and she is especially good at portraying emotions like frustration, pain and confusion, something very few people can do. She is not afraid to portray unrequited love and normal human emotions. Her characters actually feel like real people, and not like some romanticised figures taken from teenagers' imagination.

Warning: um, some of the stories (but not all) are still WIPs, and er... German? I know that not everyone on my flist speaks it.

3. If you enjoy or have enjoyed Harry/Draco fanfiction, you have to have read at least one of [info]scoradh's stories and you would know she's one of the best writers we've had the pleasure to have in the HP fandom.

Well, if possible, I think her original fics are even better. Both stories she's written are highly recommended - while many would say thatThe Problem with Elephants has a better ending than Fool's Gold, I'd put both on the same scale, because both deal with issues real life people have to face - bullying and coming out in the first case and deception and manipulation in the second. The writing is tight and yet descriptive enough, and the prose flaws nicely. Once you've started, you won't stop. Trust me.

Warning: the ending in Fool's Gold is not what you would expect. Sometimes, things are just the way it looks they are.

4. If there's a perfect story even written, it's Running Far Afield by [info]sansa1970.

Honestly, I've read and reread this story many times, and I can't find a single flaw in it. It's so amazingly plotted out, structured and executed that the only thing you could complain about is why it isn't longer... that is, much longer, because hell, I have a great time reading it while it lasts and when it's over I want this happy feeling to keep on coming! It has a little from everything - it is romantic with some fairytale elements, it has anger, it has issues, and it has the understand vs. the intolerant adult. It's imaginary, beautifully written and it has me totally in a puddle on the floor every time.

Warning: um, I can't think of anything. It has a sex scene, but I wouldn't rate it very high. BTW, most stories on the list have that, so yeah... not really a warning.

5. And the award for the most unpredictable and original ship plot goes to A Lawless Life by Dead Fridays!

This story is funny. Like, really, really funny. To tell you the truth, I'm very envious of this particular author. She can some up with descriptions and comparisons that will make you giggle for hours after you're done reading them, and this is something I've always wished I was able to do, but never mastered. The things she comes up with... well, let's say that if you want something light and funny, this story would be your best bet.

To add to that, the pairing in this story is practically impossible to guess, even after 10 chapters. The main characters has five or six guys chasing after him, and no one knows who he'll choose, because the author takes her time telling details about all candidates and basically hardly any seems more important than the others. I have my favourite, but the chance that I would be right is not very high...

If someone reads this, share with me who your favourite is - I'd like to hear it!

Warning: Some POV issues, infrequent updates. :-((((

6. If you can write a story with a rather unpleasant main character and still get me hooked, then you must be good, because I don't do that normally. The main reason I disliked the Administration Series is that I find both main characters totally psychic and unlikeable. Well, Colby from Chemicals to Blind by Twisted by Design could be called psychic and unlikeable, too, but he might very well grow on you. He sure did grow on me.

I like that the author takes her time with everything that happens, because it's realistic and shows a great insight in to the human nature and good, gradual writing. The main character's love interest isn't introduced until the sixth chapter, because the author was busy with dealing with Colby's own issues and introducing the second (not third) main character in the story - a girl, a normal girl who is described like a normal person for a change, unlike what many original slash writers do with their female characters.

Warning: some spelling issues, WIP that hasn't been updated for a long time. :-((((

I adore my mood theme here. Really, I'm only posting because I wanna use it. The same post can be found on my LJ.

For Lord's sake!

Your baby boy seems to prefer boys? Buy this book, give it to him and he'll learn how to fix himself! It's very easy!

I'd be very interested to find out who wrote this book and who published it.

Does anyone have the new Darren Hayes album and if yes, would you upload it for me? It's not in any of the music upload communities I frequent, and while I know I'm gonna buy it when it comes out in Germany, it might take a lot of time until this happens. I'm in Bulgaria until 18-th September, and the chances to find it here are non-existent, considering the homophobia that rules here and the fact that most people here have no taste when it comes to music and prefer listening to trash chalga music and looking at the silicon-pumped, blonde, naked girls that produce it. Please? I'll buy the album by the first chance - only that I don't wanna wait to hear the songs.
